John Cullinan was born in 1947. He studied fine art at the Limerick School of Art where he graduated with honours. In his early career he taught at the Limerick School of Art and later, he moved to West Clare and painted there. After eight years, he moved to Waterford where he taught art in De La Salle College, Tramore. In 1998, Cullinan retired and started painting again in 2000. He co-founded the Waterford Life Art group and is currently still painting in his studio in Waterford.
