Artist Merce Canadell
Merce Canadell was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1960. She graduated from the Massana School of Arts in Barcelona in 1993 with a Degree in sculpture. She has completed courses from the Ceramic Council School and in Commercial Interior Design. Currently Merce is working on her sculpture work and doing Scenery Textile Designs and constructions for contemporary dance. Since arriving in Dublin she has taken part in several workshops in the Fire Station Artists Studios, workshop 2003.
While living in Ireland Merce has developed a keen interest in the indigenous artistic traditions, myths and legends and the ways these relate to her own Mediterranean culture and to the refining and enriching of sculptural process Her study of Irish mythology and the Celtic art have, by her own admission, opened a new world of symbolic forms that she is keen to express in her sculptures.
As well as achieving a high level of success in her native Spain Merce has participated in a large number of exhibitions in many counties in Ireland including; Galway, Roscommon, Kildare, Wicklow, Dublin and Cork.
