Artists Bio : Patrick Cashin

A full-time artist since 1996, Patrick was born in New York in 1965 to Irish parents, returning to Cork at the age of seven, where he was raised and now lives and has his studio. To date, Patrick’s work has been exhibited in 12 solo exhibitions, most recently including a major retrospective of his work at The Hunt Museum in 2008, and his work also regularly features at International Art Fairs both here in Ireland and abroad. The paintings on view here at 2 Fenn’s Quay are very much representative of Patrick’s work, which is predominantly based on the Irish coast and landscape, often featuring the coastline and landscape of Cork and West Cork, which is an ongoing source of inspiration for the artist’s work.

The artist views the creation of every painting as an individual process, with some paintings developing as a direct response to and recording of a particular place and its own ambience and atmosphere, while other paintings develop more in terms of recreating certain experiences, like when one views the coastline as early mist clears, or the atmosphere one experiences when viewing the landscape at a certain time of evening or night.
